Ohio questions, answered

Wasn't everything under $500 tax-free last year?

It was — in 2024 and 2025 Ohio expanded the holiday to nearly everything under $500, and 2025's ran two full weeks. The state budget didn't fund that for 2026, so the holiday went back to clothing under $75 and school supplies under $20.

When was the 2026 holiday?

August 7–9, 2026 — the first Friday through Sunday of the month. If you missed it, the next one should land in early August 2027; the state confirms the exact shape in spring.

Do online orders count?

Yes. Order and pay during the holiday weekend and the exemption applies, even when delivery comes later — and shipping itself is tax-free when everything in the box qualifies.

Is there a limit on how much I can spend?

No cart limit. The caps are per item: each piece of clothing must be $75 or less, each school supply $20 or less. Buy as many qualifying items as you like.

Do local sales taxes come off too?

Yes — qualifying items skip both the state rate and county rates during the weekend.
